Teeth whitening in Lucknow: in-clinic and at-home options
Teeth whitening lightens stains from tea, coffee, paan and age. At OrthoalignX we check that your teeth and gums are healthy first, then recommend in-clinic whitening or a supervised at-home option.

Your options
In-clinic whitening or at-home kits?
Both use a peroxide gel to lighten the colour inside the tooth. They differ in strength, speed and supervision.
| Feature | In-clinic whitening | At-home kits |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Visible change in one visit | Gradual, over days or weeks |
| Supervision | Done by the dentist, gums protected | Done by you |
| Fit | Gel applied precisely | Generic trays or strips can touch the gums; custom trays fit better |
| Sensitivity | Monitored and managed in the chair | Can build up if overused |
| Best for | A noticeable change before an event | Mild staining, or keeping results after clinic whitening |
Teeth whitening at home
Teeth whitening at home: what to check first
Many people search for teeth whitening at home before visiting a dentist. Home kits can work for mild stains, but a few checks avoid problems.
- Get a check-up first. Cavities, cracks and receding gums make whitening painful and should be treated before you start.
- Avoid harsh home remedies. Lemon juice, baking soda scrubs and charcoal powder can wear away enamel. Thinner enamel makes teeth look more yellow, not less.
- Follow the timing on the pack. Leaving gel on longer does not whiten faster; it increases sensitivity.
- Remember crowns and fillings. They will not change colour.
Before whitening
Cleaning first, then whitening
Some yellowing is tartar and surface stain, not tooth colour. A professional cleaning removes this first, so you see the real shade and only whiten if you still want to.
Questions
Teeth whitening FAQs
Is teeth whitening safe?
Whitening done or supervised by a dentist is safe for most people. We check for cavities, gum problems and sensitivity first, because whitening gel on an untreated cavity or exposed root can hurt.
Are at-home teeth whitening kits safe?
Some are mild and safe when used as directed; others can irritate gums or increase sensitivity. Results vary and are usually slower than in-clinic whitening. If you want to whiten at home, ask us first and we can advise on a suitable kit or make custom trays.
Does whitening work on crowns and fillings?
No. Whitening only lightens natural teeth. Crowns, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings keep their colour, so they may need replacing to match after whitening.
How long does whitening last?
Usually from several months to a couple of years. Tea, coffee, paan, tobacco and turmeric-rich food bring stains back faster.
Does whitening cause sensitivity?
Some people feel sensitivity for a day or two afterwards. It usually settles on its own, and a sensitivity toothpaste helps.
Can I whiten my teeth during braces or aligners?
It is best to whiten after braces come off, so the area under the brackets matches the rest of the tooth. With aligners, whitening can sometimes be planned during treatment. Ask the orthodontist.
